Dec. 3, 2007 DWU nursing students attend midyear conference
MITCHELL — Gloria Thompson, director of the associate of arts in nursing program and associate professor of nursing at DWU, accompanied three nursing students to the national nursing student midyear conference in Kansas City, Mo., on Nov. 15-18. “The midyear conference is a great opportunity to meet and mingle with nursing leaders, fellow students, and prospective employers,” said Thompson. The nursing students, Sara Van Zee, Corsica; Joan Kramer, Freeman; and Anita Nicholson, Mitchell, attended a mini-review course which covered topics included in the NCLEX-RN exam for licensure as a registered nurse. Conference sessions focused on a variety of issues related to nursing roles in the changing world of health care. The opening session and key address, “Nursing: A Career for Your Lifetime,” featured Donna Cardillo, nationally known speaker, author and consultant. Two panels of nurses from several specialty areas discussed their career experiences, education and credentials necessary for that specialty area. Nursing students were able to visit with nurse recruiters from different areas of the country, in addition to taking a tour of a new renal dialysis unit in Kansas City.
