July 16, 2007 DWU theatre season announced MITCHELL – Dan Miller, assistant professor and director of theatre in the DWU communications/ theatre department, announces the 2007-2008 theater season productions. DWU’s first production, “Deathtrap” by Ira Levin, presents audiences with one of the great popular successes of Broadway history. This ingeniously constructed play offers a rare and skillful blending of two priceless theatrical ingredients, gasp-inducing thrills and spontaneous laughter. Dealing with the devious machinations of a writer of thrillers whose recent offerings have been flops, and who is prepared to go to any lengths to improve his fortunes, it provides twists and turns and sudden shocks in such abundance that audiences will be held spellbound until the very last moment. Then in January, DWU Theatre offers the bitingly satiric black comedy, “Baby with the Bathwater” by Christopher Durang, which enjoyed widespread critical and popular acceptance in its long run at Off-Broadway's Playwrights Horizons. This time the author's target is parenthood, which he skewers with savagely gleeful wit and characteristically outrageous humor. Finally, in March the department presents “The Diary of Anne Frank” DWU is proud to present this powerful new adaptation by Wendy Kesselman in which Anne Frank emerges from history a living, lyrical, intensely gifted young girl who confronts her rapidly changing life and the increasing horror of her time with astonishing honesty, wit and determination. This production will be presented at the Pepsi-Cola Theatre for Performing Arts, the home of the Mitchell Area Community Theatre. DWU Theatre will be offering this extraordinary play for area middle school and high school matinees during the week of March 25-28, 2008.
