DWU nursing department administrative changes

MITCHELL – Don Watt, vice president for academic affairs and dean, announced administrative changes in the nursing department at Dakota Wesleyan University.

Gloria Thompson, associate professor, transitions from administrative chair of the department of nursing to the director of the associate of arts in nursing program at all three campuses, Mitchell, Huron and Sioux Falls.

Adele Jacobson, associate professor, is the new administrative chair of the department of nursing and the director of the RN to Bachelor of Arts in Nursing (RN-BAN) program.

“I am excited about the enrollment, as 21 of the 2007 AA nursing graduates are continuing into the RN-BAN program along with four alumni from the class of 2006,” said Jacobsen. “The RN-BAN program offers the opportunity for these graduates to enhance their education with the added focus on nursing research, nursing leadership and management, community health, and health promotion. The nursing courses are offered online, which accommodates the RN student's personal and practice commitments.”

Watt announced these changes as the RN-BAN program goes into its first full year of classes. The associate of arts nursing program graduated 62 students in 2007.

“A student can now come to DWU with a four-year plan of study, earning both the AA and the BA degree in nursing,” said Watt. “Our students can begin working as an RN while they complete their bachelor’s degree.”
