Employees honored at DWU


Paul Logan and Gretchen Rich,
recipients of the Professional
Excellence Awards.

Mike Catalano with the Presidential Award for Outstanding Service.

MITCHELL – Several Dakota Wesleyan University employees were honored May 9 at a special recognition luncheon.

Mike Catalano, professor of mathematics, received the Presidential Award for Outstanding Service. Catalano was commended for his leadership in the university’s reaccreditation process and his excellence in teaching.

Gretchen Rich, assistant professor of English, received the Professional Excellence Award for a faculty member in recognition of her dedication to her students and her willingness to serve.

Paul Logan, coordinator of housekeeping, received the Professional Excellence Award for a staff member. Logan is known for his positive attitude and tireless dedication to serving the campus community.

Rich and Logan were chosen from a pool of quarterly winners that included Catalano; Vince Redder, assistant professor of English and Languages; Kevin Farley, head men’s soccer coach; and Jackie Wentworth, director of alumni relations.

Length of service awards were presented to the following employees: 20 years – Karen Bruns, head cataloger; Jim Lefferts, associate professor of chemistry/physics; Pam Nielson Boline, associate professor of human services; Rocky Von Eye, professor of mathematics; and Carol Weiss, accounts receivable accountant; 15 years – Deb Cap, administrative assistant in institutional advancement; and Mike Catalano, professor of mathematics; 10 years – Paul Almjeld, professor of music; Yolie Kernes, director of student support services; and Chad Larson, graphic design specialist; 5 years – Allen Jenks, custodial/maintenance technician; Nicole Popp, financial aid counselor; Nancy Sonne, assistant professor of nursing; and Mary Stahl, enrollment services assistant.

Retirees Ralph Roth, associate professor of business administration and economics, and Bob Tatina, professor of biology, were recognized for their years of service to Dakota Wesleyan University.
