McGovern Conference speaker to be broadcast on C-Span Book TV

MITCHELL — C-SPAN2’s Book TV will broadcast the session by Bruce Miroff, “The Liberals’ Moment: The McGovern Insurgency and the Identity Crisis of the Democratic Party,” presented at the McGovern Conference at Dakota Wesleyan University on Nov. 6.

The segment will run on C-SPAN2’s Book TV on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 1:15 a.m., 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Miroff documents George McGovern's presidential campaign of 1972 and the subsequent redesign of the Democratic party that the author contends took place following McGovern's defeat. Miroff argues that the Democratic base shifted from urban and blue collar to suburban and issue oriented.

Miroff is the author of "Icons of Democracy: American Leaders as Heroes, Aristocrats, Dissenters, and Democrats." He is currently a political science professor at the State University of New York at Albany.
