Oct. 4, 2007 Textbook translated into Chinese
MITCHELL – Mike Albright, associate professor and director of online learning at DWU, is co-author of a textbook that’s recently been translated into Chinese. The book has also been translated into Korean and Arabic. “The translation into traditional Chinese reflects the great interest of the Chinese government in deploying distance education technologies to improve educational systems in the country, particularly in rural and remote regions,” said Albright. Albright and three other authors wrote “Teaching and Learning at a Distance: Foundations of Distance Education.” It was written for a graduate-level "Introduction to Distance Education" course. The book is published by Prentice-Hall and was licensed to an outside publisher to be translated and printed in Chinese. “Dr. Albright is a tremendous person and great resource as we expand our teaching via distance education,” said Don Watt, vice president for academic affairs and academic dean. “His scholarly activity exemplifies the work we seek to support in addition to our focus on teaching.” The chapters on Internet-based distance education, copyright, and management and leadership of distance education were written by Albright. The book was originally written in 1998, and next spring the fourth edition will be available. The first three editions have sold 15,000 copies. Albright has written chapters for four other books and co-edited a publication entitled “Teaching in the Information Age: The Role of Educational Technology,” published by Jossey-Bass in 1992. Albright has been a faculty member at DWU since 2004. |
