Oct. 16, 2007 Simmons to present at international conference
MITCHELL – Donald Simmons, associate professor of leadership and public service at Dakota Wesleyan University, will present at the International Leadership Association Conference in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada from Oct. 31 to Nov. 3. Simmons will be joined by Dan Gaken of Central Michigan University and Jennifer Murray of Rice University as presenters on a panel entitled “Designing and Teaching an Introductory Leadership Course: A Collaborative Approach Using the New Textbook ‘Leadership and Service: An Introduction.’” “I am particularly excited about the presentation because we will be highlighting some of the new leadership communication approaches developed by Karla Hunter, one of my colleagues at DWU, and Bruce Tucker of Sante Fe Community College,” said Simmons. “Along with work by some faculty at Georgia Southern University that introduces a new concept known as civic-based leadership, we are plowing new ground in leadership studies.” The new college textbook will be co-edited and co-authored by Simmons, Gaken and Sen. George McGovern, along with 18 other contributing university scholars from around the country. The project is a joint effort of the leadership and service programs at Dakota Wesleyan University and Central Michigan University. The textbook will be released by Kendall-Hunt Publishers in March 2008. |
