Feb. 11, 2008 Pulitzer Nominated Author to Present Public Lecture
MITCHELL – Tracy Campbell, Pulitzer-nominated author, will speak at 7 p.m. on March 13 in the Sherman Center on the campus of DWU. He will speak about his most recent book, “Deliver the Vote: A History of American Election Fraud, an American Political Tradition--1742-2004.” Campbell is the 2008 McGovern Visiting Professor of Leadership and Public Service at Dakota Wesleyan University. The lecture is free and open to the public. “We are extremely excited to have such a distinguished scholar on campus this semester,” said Donald Simmons, director of the McGovern Center at DWU. Campbell, who is coteaching “Ethics and Public Policy” with Simmons this semester, serves as professor of history and codirector of the Wendell H. Ford Public Policy Research Center at the University of Kentucky. He specializes in U.S. social and political history, specifically political and electoral fraud. He is best known for his book “Short of the Glory: The Fall and Redemption of Edward F. Prichard, Jr.” (University Press of Kentucky, 1998), which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. He is currently writing a biography of the St. Louis Gateway Arch. “The fact that we have such notable scholars spending time on campus says a lot about the quality of the public service and leadership degree program at DWU,” said Katrina Jarding, a senior from Alexandria. “Getting to spend class time with Dr. Campbell is a great opportunity for me.” Campbell will also be presenting public lectures at the Adams House and Museum in Deadwood on March 9, and the South Dakota State Historical Museum in Pierre on March 11. Copies of his latest book will be on sale at all three events. For more information, contact Simmons at the McGovern Center at (605) 995-2937. |
