Thompson to speak at Dakota Wesleyan

MITCHELL – Kent Thompson will speak at noon on Thursday, Feb. 21 in the Sherman Center about the health care he provides in Tanzania.

Thompson has been a bank president, EMT, paramedic and registered nurse. He has done extensive mission work in Tanzania for several years. He also collects medical supplies and equipment that are badly needed in Tanzania.

“Kent is passionate about sharing his talents and life in service with the Tanzanian people,” said Gloria Thompson, director of the associate of arts in nursing program at DWU. “He will share his insights as to how nursing works in a developing country, along with his vision for how all of us can share in the ministry in Tanzania.”

He will share pictures of African people and their culture, Maasai Lutheran Girls School, nursing colleges, and health care facilities. Thompson graduated from South Dakota State University with a bachelor’s degree in nursing in 2006. He works at Selian Lutheran Hospital while being actively involved in planning the Arusha Lutheran Medical Centre to be opened in spring 2008.

The DWU Student Nurses Association is sponsoring Thompson’s talk and will collect donations of 81 milligram aspirin or cash donations for his mission work with Operation Boot Strap. Collection boxes for the aspirin will be in the McGovern Library. Cash donations and aspirin can also be left in the nursing department.
