DWU receives service-learning grant

MITCHELL – Dakota Wesleyan University has received a $15,000 grant from the Midwest Consortium for Service-Learning in Higher Education.

“This grant is for faculty and program development,” said Rhonda Pole, DWU Director of Internships and associate director of the Kelley Center for Entrepreneurship. “In addition to offering educational opportunities to our faculty, the funds will allow us to develop and implement projects that will benefit at-risk youth.”

Faculty members Karla Hunter, Gloria Leonard and Rene Pruitt, Donald Watt, academic dean, and Pole attended the Midwest conference for professional development and contributed to the proposal.

The proposal was fundable, according to reviewers, because DWU is focused on involving students, faculty and the community.

“This grant will give DWU the opportunity to expand our service-learning initiatives and strengthen our connection with the Mitchell community by reaching disadvantaged youth,” said Pole.
