Mar. 10, 2008 Secretary of State to Join Discussion on Election Fraud
MITCHELL – Chris Nelson, South Dakota Secretary of State, will join Tracy Campbell, Pulitzer-nominated author and 2008 McGovern Visiting Professor of Leadership and Public Service at Dakota Wesleyan University, in a public discussion on election fraud at 7 p.m. on March 13 in the Sherman Center at DWU. Nelson will offer a response and a South Dakota perspective to Campbell’s lecture about his most recent book, “Deliver the Vote: A History of American Election Fraud, an American Political Tradition–1742-2004.” “As our state's chief election official, I have a keen interest in preventing election fraud in South Dakota while maintaining open and free access to the polls for all legal voters. I look forward to visiting about this delicate balance,” said Nelson. Before his election to public office in 2002, Nelson held the position of state election supervisor in the secretary of state's office for 13 years. Campbell, who is coteaching Ethics and Public Policy at DWU this semester, serves as professor of history and codirector of the Wendell H. Ford Public Policy Research Center at the University of Kentucky. He specializes in U.S. social and political history, specifically political and electoral fraud. He is best known for his book “Short of the Glory: The Fall and Redemption of Edward F. Prichard, Jr.” (University Press of Kentucky, 1998), which was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize. The program is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Donald Simmons at the McGovern Center at (605) 995-2937. |
