Curry to present “Samantha ‘Rastles’ the Woman Question” at DWU

MITCHELL – Jane Curry will present “Samantha ‘Rastles’ the Woman Question” at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 25 at the Sherman Center on the campus of Dakota Wesleyan University. This event is free and open to the public.

Join farm wife and rustic philosopher Samantha Smith Allen as she "rastles" with questions concerning history's treatment of women, including rights denied by the church, women's powerlessness before the law, social status and role assumptions. Samantha challenges the status quo and plants herself squarely on the side of sensible women's rights.

Curry is an author, storyteller, performer, and recovering academic with a knack for provoking both thought and laughter with her one-woman shows. Since 1983, she has traveled with her various personae to 48 states and two countries – Israel and Japan.

Gretchen Kreuter, historian and retired president of Rockford College and Olivet College, said, "What I like is the way she manages to combine sound historical scholarship, humor and contemporary feminist issues. She's a placeholder at a time when no one much wants to hear feminist rhetoric. She keeps the issues alive … I don't know anyone who does it better than Jane."

Curry's performance of “Samantha ‘Rastles’ the Woman Question” is sponsored by the DWU Multicultural Committee, Avera Queen of Peace, DWU Student Support Services and the YWCA.
