Mar. 26, 2008 Herr-Valburg meets with representatives
MITCHELL – Missy Herr-Valburg, director of recruitment at Dakota Wesleyan University, visited with representatives of South Dakota’s Congressional delegation during a national meeting in Washington, D.C. on March 9-12. Herr-Valburg and representatives from the Dakota Association for College Admission Counseling met with educational staff representing Sen. Thune, Rep. Herseth-Sandlin and Sen. Johnson. “Our folks in D.C. are working for us,” said Herr-Valburg. “We have a sincere interest in our young people in South Dakota and we need help in educating them and getting adequate guidance and resources. I see it as our responsibility to make those folks in D.C. aware of the educational issues our federal government is involved in and how they affect us here at home.” The goal of the meeting was to urge Congress to assist states in developing graduate coursework to train current and future admission and counseling professionals to provide high quality postsecondary advising to students and families.
