DWU theatre presents “Diary of Anne Frank”

Diary of Anne FrankMITCHELL – The DWU communications/theatre department will present “The Diary of Anne Frank,” newly adapted by Wendy Kesselman from the original stage play by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, March 27-30 at the Pepsi-Cola Theatre for the Performing Arts in downtown Mitchell.

The South Dakota Humanities Council and the South Dakota State Historical Society’s Cultural Heritage Center’s traveling exhibit, “The Holocaust,” will be available for viewing in the lobby of the Pepsi-Cola Theatre.

In this production, Anne Frank emerges from history a living, lyrical, intensely gifted young girl, who confronts her rapidly changing life and the increasing horror of her time with astonishing honesty, wit and determination.

The production is a cooperative effort between DWU and Mitchell Area Community Theater. Performers include DWU students and community members. Unless otherwise noted, cast and crew members are from Mitchell.

The “Diary” cast includes Ben Floyd, Sioux Falls, as Otto Frank; Trisha Schleich, Mitchell, as Edith Frank; Melissa Tafoya, Pueblo, Colo., as Margo Frank; Kerrie Roozen, Spearfish, as Anne Frank; Kelsey Miller, Belle Fourche, as Meip Geis; A.J. Miller as Peter Van Daan; Abhishek Chan Tiwari, Pokhara, Nepal, as Mr. Kraler; Clarence Larsen as Mr. Van Daan; Lelia Gilbert as Mrs. Van Daan; Jerry Hinkle, Holabird, as Mr. Dussell; Al Jacklin as the Nazi captain; Joshua Kroeker, Woodbury, Minn., as a Nazi soldier; Preston Carpenter, Brighton, Colo., as a Nazi solder. Holocaust victims are Tessa Bartscher; Jenna Callies; Ally Goldammer; Linda Heath; Lisa Marie Jones; Carly McEntee; Linda McEntee; Madison Miller; Alexis Olson; Natalie Parks; Tabitha Prickett; Danny Richardson, Witchita, Kan.; Alice Schleich; Angela Schleich; JoAnna Schleich and Marissa Tubbs.

Production staff and crew included stage manager Richardson; costume designer, Melissa Vatter-Miller; scenic design, Robert E. Winthrop III; hair and makeup design, Charity Kear, Bismarck, N.D.; technical director, Floyd; scenic charge, Trisha Schleich, Mitchell; director, lighting and sound, Miller.
