DWU Student Activities Board presents concert series

MITCHELL — The DWU Student Activities Board (SAB) will present a concert series at 7 p.m. each Monday in September on Jackson Plaza. Concert fans will need to bring their own blankets or folding chairs.

“We learned last year with Wesleyan Idol that there is an enormous block of talent on this campus and the student body is incredibly interested in supporting that talent,” said Susie Hadrick, adviser of the SAB and director of residence life.

The Sherman Center will be the location in the event of inclement weather. All concerts are free and open to the public.

Sept. 8
Mike Catalano, professor of mathematics, will play guitar and perform songs from the 60s and 70s. Catalano was a featured performer at Java City and at a spring concert that featured local talent.

Sept. 15
DWU choir members Melody Howell, Trisha Schleich and Kelsey Miller will play a set of songs they’ve compiled. All were contestants in last year’s Wesleyan Idol and look to compete strongly again this year.

Sept. 22
DWU alumnus Joe Schoenfelder will perform his original songs. Schoenfelder graduated in 2008 with a minor in music. He often performs locally and is known for his singing and songwriting styles.

Sept. 29
The band RyanHood will perform to conclude the series. In 2004 RyanHood was chosen to perform in Boston’s world-famous Street Performers Festival. Soon after, they performed at the 2005 NACA National Conference. Their performance landed them on the conference “Top-20 Hot List” according to Campus Activities Magazine, which went on to call the duo “one of the hottest new bands in the college market today.”
