DWU faculty member sworn into US Army Reserve Nursing
Corps

MITCHELL — A member of Dakota Wesleyan University’s nursing
faculty was sworn into the United States Army Reserve Nursing Corps Wednesday,
Aug. 12, at the nursing department on campus.
Carena Jarding, DWU nursing instructor and 2000 graduate, took her oath
during a noon ceremony at the nursing office with her Army recruiter,
Sgt. First Class Timothy Schwarten, present and Maj. Tony Cole conducting
the ceremony. Cole is an assistant professor of biochemistry at DWU.
Jarding was sworn in as a first lieutenant and will leave for officer’s
training in San Antonio, Texas, next summer.
This is her second year as a nursing instructor at DWU. Jarding and her
husband, Tim, have one daughter, Mercedes. Her parents are Larry and Linda
Hostler of Mount Vernon.
