Feb. 3, 2009 DWU Future Teachers host Dr. Seuss Carnival
Children from preschool through fifth grade are welcome to participate in this fun event. There will be birthday cake and punch available to all the readers. Children can read or listen to books to earn tickets, which allow them to play games and win prizes. Each child who participates in the festivities will receive a free book. Adults must accompany their children to the carnival. "We are excited to have the opportunity to connect and serve the community,” said Gina Klumb, the FTO president. “This event does not only give children and parents the opportunity to connect with each other, but it also gives us as future teachers the opportunity to connect with the community.” The event is funded by a grant from the National Education Association, and is free and open to the public. “We are looking forward to engaging both young and old in the importance of reading and feel that this type of involvement truly enhances our future teachers in becoming educators,” said Kathy Budahl, FTO adviser. “This year we are emphasizing the importance of family literacy, and we will have a booth promoting this. We will have a book basket that will be given away to one family. The students in the reading methods class are also designing reading games to supplement the Dr. Seuss books. We are excited for the new elements this year.” For more information, contact FTO adviser Kathy Budahl at 605-995-2111 or kabudahl@dwu.edu. |
