Giving the shirt off your stack

MITCHELL — It happens. Old clothes, shoes, coats and baby stuff pile up in the corners of closets and depths of the bureau and not only go unused, but wasted.

There’s a way to put this apparel neglect to good use. Perhaps even pretend it was all intentionally done to serve a specific purpose – the “Share What You Wear” community clothing drive.

The Dakota Wesleyan softball team is spearheading a community project that will help the community reach out by digging through their closets.

DWU students and volunteers will collect clean clothing, jackets, gloves, shoes, toys and household items at a drop-off point on the DWU campus. The volunteers will be located at the Puetz Construction semi trailer in the DWU parking lot on Duff Street, just north of the football practice field from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Then, at 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 20, volunteers will unload the semi trailer and sort the items in the Christen Family Wellness Center. The next day, at 8 a.m., the Wellness Center will open to those in need of these items for the holiday season.

For more information on how to help, contact Marie McCarthy-Foster at mamccart@dwu.edu, or call her at 995-2178.
