‘Glass Menagerie’ will hit stage this weekend

The Glass MenagerieMITCHELL — The Dakota Wesleyan theatre department will present Tennessee Williams’ play, “The Glass Menagerie,” this month at the Pepsi-Cola Theatre for Performing Arts.

Performance dates are 7:30 p.m. March 12-13 and 19-20; and 2 p.m. on March 14 and 21. Tickets are $8 and $10 and can be purchased at the Antique Mall in downtown Mitchell. The production is free to all DWU students, staff and faculty and Mitchell Area Community Theatre members.

“The Glass Menagerie” is told by the main character, Tom Wingfield, as he recalls his youth. The story centers around Tom, his mother, Amanda, and older sister, Laura. Amanda is desperate to marry Laura off and enlists Tom to help. Unfortunately, Laura is painfully shy. The story develops as Tom recruits a friend from work to come to dinner.

The cast of characters will be played by Daniel L. Miller, Nicole Anderson, Madison-Ainsely Miller, Benjamin J. Floyd and one community member, Alex Piper. Jessica Phillips and Trisha Schleich are stage managers for the production.

This show will also be presented to area high schools and middle schools with special matinees on March 16 and 17. Any schools wishing to participate can still contact theatre director Dan Miller at 605-995-2710, or damiller@dwu.edu.
