DWU SIFE Leaders Teach Financial
Class
MITCHELL — Life is expensive.
Some Dakota Wesleyan students were recently asked a few questions about
their financial future and then listened to a presentation by the Students
in Free Enterprise (SIFE) members earlier this week.
The SIFE group taught six Learn Strong classes, which amounted to about
125 freshmen, Oct. 18-20. Various SIFE members led the classes and taught
the freshmen about financial literacy and budgeting issues.
After short introductions, the classes watched a video about a recent
college graduate who was realizing all the different expenses he had living
on his own. Then the class did two exercises teaching the students to
budget their income and distinguish between needs and wants.
“The classes were well attended and students were intrigued about
the importance of budgeting and the significance of compound interest,”
said Ben Zimmer, SIFE president.
