Kelley Center Announces Entrepreneur in Residence Program to Begin This Fall

MITCHELL — The Kelley Center for Entrepreneurship at Dakota Wesleyan University has announced a new program – the Entrepreneur in Residence Program.

The focus of the program is to enhance the campus community’s exposure to entrepreneurial thinking and behavior, such as creativity, spirit of initiative, leadership, risk-taking and social responsibility. Students and faculty will be exposed to entrepreneurs’ insights, experiences, leadership styles and business advice through one-on-one interviews and classroom presentations.

Wade Beavers

The program will bring Wade Beavers, CEO of DoApp Inc. and mRemedy Inc., to the university on Nov. 17, highlighting not only this new program but Global Entrepreneurship Week. Beavers’ leadership has developed the company into being the largest distributor of news applications in the market today. In addition, as CEO of mRemedy, a partnership between DoApp and the Mayo Clinic, Beavers has led innovation in the development of tracker applications for hospitals, physicians and other medical professionals to provide for patients.

Previously, he was with IBM, where he served as a user experience architect, overseeing global execution plans for the company’s small business systems offerings. He was responsible for designing user process and experience for all products. He holds several patents, has been an IBM Excel award winner, and has received several awards from the Society for Technical Communication. Beavers and his company have been featured on MSNBC; online at Mashable and Bloomberg BusinessWeek; as well as in Inc. magazine, ESPN The Magazine and Fortune magazine.

Earlier in his career he held a variety of positions in the media industry, with newspaper, TV and radio firms. He also has developed brand and marketing strategies as a consultant for a variety of clients in professional sports, music, retail and sports recreation.

He is a graduate of Concordia College, Moorhead, Minn., where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in mass media communication and obtained his Master of Science degree from Utah State University in English with an emphasis in technical communication.
