Anne KellyAnne Kelly, Ph.D.

Anne Kelly joined the DWU faculty in 2000 as an assistant professor of psychology. She has been married to her husband, Craig, for nearly eight years and they have a 2 1/2-year-old daughter whose current preoccupations include butterflies, bugs and dancing. Their daughter hopes to be a “mommy sheep” when she grows up. Dr. Kelly volunteers at Avera Brady Health and Rehab Center and has tutored adult learners through her work with the Mitchell Area Literacy Council. She has also enjoyed volunteering for the Salvation Army. In 2003, Dr. Kelly received the quarterly DWU Professional Excellence Award for a faculty member. She was named Outstanding Graduate Student in 2000 and is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi national honor society. Dr. Kelly says few people know that she was once held prisoner by a bus full of hippies and forced to participate in something her captors kept calling, “the miracle.”

Gloria LeonardGloria Leonard, Ed.D

Gloria Leonard has taught at Dakota Wesleyan for the past 22 years. She is a two-time winner of the DWU Professional Excellence Award for a faculty member and has been named to Who’s Who Among College and University Professors three times. She conducts workshops on self-esteem, brain-based learning, love and relationships, study skills, and writing. Dr. Leonard is passionate about educational issues and volunteers at the Human Service Center. Before turning to teaching, she sold real estate in New Mexico for 10 years. She and her husband have two grown children, two grandsons and two granddaughters. She has also served as deacon at a Presbyterian church.

George NielsonGeorge Nielson, Ph.D

George Nielson will celebrate his 35th year of teaching at DWU during the 2005-06 academic year. As one of the longest serving professors at the university, Dr. Nielson was a visiting scholar at the University of Chicago and has studied at Uppsala University in Sweden. He has been married to his wife, Ruth, for the last 47 years and they are the parents of four sons, David, Paul, Mark and Charles. They also have a grandson, Kai.

During his lifetime, Dr. Nielson has farmed, taught high school, was an instructor at the University of Kansas and served as a Lutheran pastor. Additionally, Dr. Nielson served in Korea with the U.S. Army.

Pam Nielson BolinePam Nielson Boline

Associate Professor of Human Services

Pam Nielson Boline joined the DWU faculty in 1980 and is currently the chair of the DWU Department of Human Services. She has also served as a counselor for Student Support Services at DWU and is the adviser for the Human Services Club. She received the Sears-Roebuck Foundation Award for Teaching Excellence in 1991 and the 1998 Clarke Award for Teaching Excellence. In addition to work in the classroom, she is a professional consultant in areas of child abuse, domestic violence and volunteerism.

Randy SprungRandy Sprung

Associate Professor of Behavioral Sciences

Randy Sprung began working at Dakota Wesleyan in 1980 as a counselor and adviser to Native American students. As an assistant professor, his responsibilities include program development, assisting student research and teaching. He also serves as director of testing. He previously worked as a psychiatric counselor and dean of students at another university. He is a devoted DWU sports fan and adviser to the DWU cheerleading squads. Something few people know about him is that he played basketball in high school.
