Eligibility Requirements

The Student Support Services program provides assistance for undergraduate students who meet the Department of Education's requirements. It is open to DWU students who are U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents with a permanent resident card who meet one or more of the following:

First generation - Students who are the first to attend college - if neither parent earned a bachelor's degree prior to your 18th birthday.

Disabled - students who require accommodations or services because of a documented physical, psychological, and/or learning disability.

Low Income - students must meet the income guidelines set by the U.S. Department of Education.

2007 Annual Low Income Levels

(Effective February 2007 Until Further Notice)

For family units with more than eight members, add the following amount for each additional family member: $5,220 for the 48 contiguous states, the District of Columbia and outlying jurisdictions; $6,525 for Alaska; and $6,000 for Hawaii.

The term "low-income individual" means an individual whose family's taxable income for the preceding year did not exceed 150 percent of the poverty level amount.

The figures shown under family income represent amounts equal to 150 percent of the family income levels established by the Census Bureau for determining poverty status. The poverty guidelines were published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services in the Federal Register, Vol. 71, No. 15, January 24, 2006, pp. 3848-3849.

Students who meet one or more of these criteria and are U.S. citizens, U.S. national (includes natives of American Samoa or Swain’s Island), or U.S. permanent resident who has an Alien Registration Receipt Card are eligible for program assistance.
