Student Support Services Federal Program Description

The program provides opportunities for academic development, assists students with basic college requirements, and serves to motivate students toward the successful completion of their postsecondary education. Student Support Services (SSS) projects also may provide grant aid to current SSS participants who are receiving Federal Pell Grants (# 84.063). The goal of SSS is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants and help students make the transition from one level of higher education to the next.

Services provided by the TRiO Student Support Services program are available to eligible students on the Mitchell campus only. Services include:

• Free Peer and professional mentoring
• Free Peer Tutoring services
• Counseling; Academic and personal
• Career guidance
• Multicultural and Educational Workshops
• Developmental English instruction
• Direct financial assistance (grant aid) to currently active SSS participants who are Federal Pell Grant recipients

What are Federal TRiO Programs?

The Federal TRIO Programs are educational opportunity outreach programs designed to motivate and support students from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes six outreach and support programs targeted to serve and assist low-income, first-generation college students, and students with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to post baccalaureate programs. TRiO Programs include:
