iWebfolio Overview
Electronic portfolios are gaining widespread use among colleges
and universities for purposes such as institutional assessment, student
assessment, departmental program reviews, and faculty and staff evaluation. Students
are now using e-portfolios to meet graduation requirements as well
as to compile academic and personal credentials to accompany employment
applications. Faculty use e-portfolios to compile and organize
evidence for promotion and tenure reviews. Many, many other
applications of electronic portfolios are possible.
Dakota
Wesleyan University has licensed iWebfolio,
marketed by Nuventive,
as its campuswide electronic portfolio application.
Faculty and departmental iWebfolio accounts can be obtained from
Mike Albright, the campus Instructional Technology Specialist ( mialbrig@dwu.edu or
995-2638). Student iWebfolio licenses must be purchased from
the DWU Bookstore or directly
from Nuventive. (Click on the Sign Up Now button to pay
by credit card.) The cost of an iWebfolio license, which must
be renewed annually, is the equivalent of the cost of a textbook.)
Some DWU departments have elected to require students to develop
web-based portfolios using an HTML editor as an alternative to iWebfolio. Incoming
students should check with their academic departments before purchasing
iWebfolio licenses.
Training in use of iWebfolio will be provided on a one-to-one basis. Contact
Mike Albright.
