Download the entire Technology
Handbook as a PDF document (631 KB) Welcome to Dakota Wesleyan University's own unique Technology Handbook. Here all members of the DWU community - faculty, staff, students, administrators - can find helpful information about campus technologies. This handbook is a work in progress. As you can tell from the "Version 1.0", this is the first time we have done this. Your feedback is extremely important to us. Please tell us what works, what doesn't, what additional information it should contain, and what we can do to make it better for you. Send you comments and suggestions to Mike Albright, x2638, mialbrig@dwu.edu. Table of Contents
The Introduction explains how the idea for the handbook came about and why it is necessary. Chapter 1 briefly describes each of the technologies we use here at DWU, from electronic mail to course delivery, student advising, scheduling meetings, and working at our desktop computers. Chapter 2 is a guide to help you get started with technology on this campus, with a special section devoted to helping you get set up with technology and connectivity at home. Chapter 3 tells you how to find training opportunities available to you, to help you expand your skills with campus technologies. Chapter 4 is by far the longest section of the handbook. It is a comprehensive guide to the information you need, alphabetically by topic. Need to know about accessing the network from off-campus, interlibrary loan, classroom technologies, spam control, or getting help in developing an online course? This is the place. Chapter 5 is a guide to technology planning and governance at DWU. Who makes the decisions, and who are they guided by? What is the role of the Computer Advisory Committee? The Instructional Technology Committee? What roles can you take? Chapter 6 is a compilation of the more important web sites related to technology at Dakota Wesleyan. You may want to save these in your Favorites list. Appendix A is a list of contact persons. Whom do you contact to get help with what? Appendix B is a computer literacy self-assessment checklist. What do you need to know about technology to be successful at Dakota Wesleyan? (Will open as a Word file.) This file may be saved and modified by others without permission or attribution. |
