In Fall 2003, Dakota Wesleyan University received a five-year Title III
grant from the U.S. Department of Education, for the purposes of upgrading
the university's administrative computing systems and enabling the integration
of technology throughout the curriculum. The Project Director is Dr. Rocky
Von Eye, Associate Professor of Mathematics. Kevin Kenkel, Chief Information
Officer, is the Activity Director responsible for both the administrative
and academic technology upgrades.
Faculty Needs Assessment
A survey of all full-time faculty was conducted during Spring 2004. The
results of the survey have guided activities on the academic technology
side of the grant. Other campuses are welcome to download the questionnaire
and modify it for their own use, without permission.
Mini-Grant Program
In Summer 2004, a
mini-grant program was initiated to assist selected faculty in integrating
technology to meet specific instructional needs. This program is now in
its third year. At least five mini-grants will be awarded during
the 2005-06 academic year. Applications for 2005-06 mini-grants
are due to Kevin Kenkel no later than Monday, January 30, 2006.
Recipients will be announced by mid-February, and the funds must be expended
by September 30, 2006.
Other Grant-Supported Projects
Through the employment of an Instructional Technology Specialist,
the Title III grant has enabled a number of other
academic technology support projects, including development of a technology
handbook for the campus, initiation of a Teaching and Learning with Technology
Roundtable (TLTR), and implementation of a course management system, electronic
portfolio software, and online course evaluation and survey systems, as
well as this web site.
