

With a major in communication or theatre at Dakota
Wesleyan University, students can enter a wide variety of careers
such as:
In fact, any career choice will be enhanced by well-developed
skills in oral communication. The curriculum and activities of the
communication department are designed to satisfy requirements for
entrance into graduate school, to improve basic communication skills
and to provide opportunities for participation in dramatic presentations
or intercollegiate forensics.
Dramatic Productions
As both an academic and production program participants can find themselves
in a theatrical environment in which they can feel safe and secure to investigate
their creativity, imagination and exploring their talents for theatre.
Under the supervision of DWU's Director of Theatre, Assistant Professor
Daniel L. Miller, theatre participants will explore the numerous genres,
styles and approaches to theatrical productions. Preparing themselves for
graduate programs, employment opportunities or, at least, becoming a culturally
savvy individual ready to take on the local community theatre.
Auditions
for all public performances presented by the DWU Theatre department are
open to all full-time and part-time students, as well
as staff, faculty and the community of Mitchell, SD.
Forensic Participation
Participation in forensics activities is open to all full-time
students. Previous high school participation is not a prerequisite,
and students
may be involved for academic credit. All participants are expected to
be involved in intercollegiate forensics events and meet with
the director
of forensics for preparation.
Professional Semester
Internships are available in the communications/theatre program during a
students junior or senior year. This working experience gives students
career opportunities and academic credit. Sites chosen for internships
are based on a students interests and consultation with the department
