Special Guests

Gene Cheever, who coached the 1952 and 1953 football teams, is a special guest for this year's Blue and White Day.

The 1952 Tiger football team had a 3-4 season, ending it with a 46-6 win over Sioux Falls College. The season showed a promising future for the Tigers because in the previous two years the team had just one victory. Even with its four losses, the team outscored their opponents 149-124, and outgained their opponents in yardage 2,235 to 1,750. Football player Jerry Walton was the 1952 SDIC scoring champion with 79 points.

The 1953 team had the best season of any DWU football team since 1945. With a 5-3 record, the team, mostly freshmen and sophomores, were 3-3 in conference play. The season ended with a win over Yankton College for the first time in several years.
