giving awards to recognize alumni and friends for their lifetimes of generous support.

John Wesley Award      [Top of Page]

The John Wesley Award affirms the university's continued commitment to its mission. Wesley and his teachings epitomize what the "Wesleyan experience" is all about. Given for gifts of $1,000,000 or more since 1986, this award is patterned after the original sculpture which stands at the front of the campus. Beloved alumnus and longtime theater professor, Darryl Patten '60, created this work. The cross, flame and seal are set in a block of Sioux quartzite, symbolic of the material used in constructing many of the original buildings on the Dakota Wesleyan University campus.

William I. Graham Award     [Top of Page]

A limited edition print of a pen and ink drawing of Graham Hall, crafted by former DWU assistant professor of art Ron Rodasti, is given to benefactors who have supported Dakota Wesleyan University in the amount of $500,000 or more since 1986. This award honors the building named after President Graham. Built in 1901, Graham Hall is the oldest remaining building on campus, and for many, a symbol of Wesleyan's rich history.

Cross and Flame Award     [Top of Page]
	Given for gifts of $250,000 or more since 1986, this handcrafted stained glass piece was created by Minnietta Millard, a 1963 graduate of Dakota Wesleyan. The cross and flame relate the United Methodist Church, and thus the university, to God by way of the second and third persons of the Trinity: the risen Christ, symbolized by the empty cross, and the Holy Spirit, symbolized by the flame.

Sacrifice or Service Award     [Top of Page]
	This award is presented to donors who have made gifts totaling $100,000 or more to Dakota Wesleyan University since 1986. The Lucite structure is inset with a hand drawing of one pillar from the campus gateway depicting the university motto, "Sacrifice or Service."

President's Award     [Top of Page]
	Presented to contributors who have given $50,000 or more to DWU since 1986, the bronze medallion is a replica of the one the president of Dakota Wesleyan University wears at all university events requiring academic regalia.

Tumbleweed Award     [Top of Page]
	This piece of Mikasa crystal represents a tumbleweed and the prairie on which Dakota Wesleyan University was founded. This award honors members who have contributed $25,000 or more to Dakota Wesleyan University since 1986.

Scotchman Award     [Top of Page]
	This framed print contains the words to the school song, "The Scotchman," with an aerial view of the campus in the background. It is given to contributors who have supported Dakota Wesleyan University by giving $10,000 or more to DWU since 1986.

The John Wesley Society is named after John Wesley, a scholar at Oxford and leader of the Methodist movement. Dakota Wesleyan University derives its very name from John Wesley and has a deep commitment to a liberal arts education, a uniqueness that John Wesley exemplified. John Wesley Society members are those who give $1,000 or more each year to the Wesleyan Fund. They believe in investing in the future of Dakota Wesleyan University and the impact that DWU students can have in accomplishing the mission of the institution. Individuals listed have contributed $1,000 or more to the Wesleyan Fund during the 2000-01 fiscal year (June 1, 2000 through May 31, 2001).
