Show Me The MONEY

The need for scholarships at Dakota Wesleyan University continues to grow. As our student body grows, so does our need for scholarships. Currently 96.2 percent of DWU students receive some type of financial aid. Since many of our students are first-generation college students, their families often have greater need. The more donors who give named scholarships, the less money the university has to pull from its unrestricted funds like the Wesleyan Fund. That allows us to use Wesleyan Fund gifts for other university needs.

Why people create or contribute to scholarships:

  • To thank the university for their education
  • To honor a faculty member, parent or other person who helped them while students
  • To honor their class at their 25th class reunion, for example

Types of Scholarships
Dakota Wesleyan University offers two types of scholarships:

Endowed Scholarships
You can establish a named scholarship through an outright gift of $20,000 or more over a maximum five-year period or through a planned gift. The original gift is permanently invested and only the interest income is used for scholarships each year. Before reaching the $20,000 level, interest earnings are added to the corpus of the fund to help it grow.

Annual Scholarships
With an annual gift of $1,000 or more you can establish a named annual scholarship. These scholarships are awarded on the basis of contributions received annually.

If you're interested in setting up a scholarship, contact institutional advancement at 605-995-2603 or e-mail alumni@dwu.edu. Gifts for Annual Scholarships are due Aug. 31 of the school year in which distribution will begin.

Scholarship Luncheon
Each spring, the institutional advancement office and the Randall scholars host a Scholarship Luncheon. At the luncheon, scholarship donors and recipients can meet, visit and get to know each other.
