Several Dakota Wesleyan University alumni, students and friends gathered on Nov. 2 to work on two Habitat for Humanity homes in the Twin Cities area. George Nold '63, a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity for many years, had the idea of an alumni service project. Loren Opdahl '64 has also been a longtime Habitat for Humanity volunteer in the Twin Cities. These two men served as crew chiefs for the event.

"When I retired in 1997 I wanted to do something to help our country. Habitat looked to me like the best way to do this," said Nold. "The best part is getting to meet the homeowners and hear their stories." Nold suggested the service project to Jackie Davis, DWU director of development and alumni relations, as a way to bring alumni together, while giving back to the community.

Marc Rentschler '90 worked on the service project. He said it was a great way to spend a Saturday. "The best part was working with the homeowners and seeing their excitement," he said.

Both Nold and Opdahl are going to La Grange, Ga., in June to work on several Habitat houses with Jimmy Carter and other volunteers from around the nation and other countries.
"I hope alumni in other states will consider a service project with Habitat for Humanity," said Nold.
