Sick Leave
Sick Leave
Sick leave will be granted to employees who work half-time or more who are unable to render services because of sickness, disability, or severe illness of the employee or the employee's immediate family. ("Immediate family" is defined as the employee's or the employee's spouse's children, parents, grandparents, brothers, and sisters. If circumstances warrant, the area Administrator can extend this benefit at her/his option.)

Eight hours of sick leave will accrue for each month worked for full-time employees. Staff employees who work more than half-time but less than full-time and faculty members will receive this benefit on a prorated basis.

Sick leave is cumulative, except for employees leaving the University, in which case accumulated sick leave is voided. However, no more than 360 hours of sick leave can accumulate (prorated for pro rata employees).

An employee may be required to furnish satisfactory medical proof of sickness or disability if requested.

When an employee is absent from work, the supervisor should be kept informed of the circumstances. Employees who use sick leave should turn in an Absence Slip.

Please see the Employee Handbook, or contact your supervisor or Human Resources for more information.
