DWU announces four new Board of Trustee members

Dakota Wesleyan University has welcomed four new members to its board of trustees and they will all convene on campus this week for the board’s bi-annual meeting during Blue & White Days.

Dr. John Ifediora is professor of economics emeritus at the University of Wisconsin System. He is currently an economics professor at American University in Washington, D.C., and the director and editor-in-chief at the Council on African Security and Development. Ifediora is a 1979 graduate of Dakota Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He has a Master of Studies degree from the University of Oxford; a Master of Arts degree from University of Chicago; two Master of Science degrees from the University of Cambridge, and Illinois Institute of Technology; a Juris Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School; a Ph.D. in development economics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison; and a Ph.D. in economics/public policy analysis from the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Just some of his previous experience includes faculty positions at the University of Wisconsin, economic impact consulting for Exxon-Mobil Corporation and Shell Oil Company, economic consultant for Central Bank of Nigeria, International Human Rights Law and National Security expert consultant for the Federal Government of Nigeria, and consulting for energy policy for the African Development Bank. He has also been featured as an expert in various television programs and major newspapers. He has authored or co-authored nine books, 28 articles and 14 monographs.

Ifediora is a member of various professional organizations that include: the American Economic Association; International Academy of Business and Economics; Western Economic Association; International Congress of Law And Mental Health; Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters; American Bar Association; American Immigration Lawyers Association; and the Wisconsin Bar Association.

He is married and has four children.

Jeff Jares, of Sioux Falls, is the founder and president/CEO of Claims Associates, Inc. Jares graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of South Dakota and earned an Associate in Claims Designation and Associate in Management Designation from the Insurance Institute of America. He also has a Minnesota State Adjusters License. Prior to starting Claims Associates, he worked as a multiline adjuster and manager for GAB Robins supervising territories in South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota and Wyoming.

Jares has been involved in multiple professional and community organizations, such as: South Dakota Claims Association, Honorable Order of the Blue Goose, Sales and Marketing Executives, Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce Chamber Appeals Committee, United Way, University of South Dakota Alumni Association, Prairie Family Business Association, and is currently board president of DakotAbilities and finance chair for Southern Hills Methodist Church.

He is married to Gwen Jares and they have two children.

Cindy Krall, of Mitchell is a freelance writer and faith-based speaker and blogger. Krall graduated from South Dakota State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in communication disorders and psychology. She then earned a Master of Arts degree in communication disorders from Northern Illinois University.

Previously, Krall was a board member for Mitchell Christian School and coach of Oral Interpretation. Her family has built a legacy at Dakota Wesleyan, beginning with her mother, Janet R. Martin, class of 1981; her son, Matthew Krall, class of 2018; and her daughter, Taylor Krall, currently a senior at the university.

She is married to Jeff Krall, a former Dakota Wesleyan Board of Trustees member. They have three children together.

Scott Swier, of Avon, is the CEO, founder and managing partner of Swier Law Firm, Prof. LLC, and leads the law firm’s business litigation practice group and education law practice group. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of South Dakota School of Law. He graduated from Mount Marty College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in social science and received his Juris Doctorate from the USD-School of Law. While serving in private legal practice and as assistant attorney general for the State of South Dakota, he served as counsel for the State of South Dakota in many high-profile cases. Some of his clients included: Gov. Michael Rounds, the Attorney General’s Office, the Secretary of State’s Office, and the Department of Education, Department of Revenue and Regulation, Department of the Environment and Natural Resources, and South Dakota Commission on Gaming.

Swier is the author of “The South Dakota School of Law Deskbook.” He has also spoken at numerous professional organizations, including the South Dakota State Medical Association, South Dakota Pharmacists Association, South Dakota Association of County Commissioners, South Dakota Association of County Officials, South Dakota Municipal League, South Dakota State’s Attorney’s Association, the Associated School Boards of South Dakota, and the School Administrators of South Dakota. In 2015, he was also featured on the cover of Sioux Falls BizNOW Magazine.

He is married to Theresa Swier and they have three children.
