Dakota Wesleyan University, Mitchell, has announced its 2018 beanie king and queen. This is a title bestowed on two freshmen – winners were “crowned” Monday night during the homecoming coronation ceremony.
Molly Pengra, of Hot Springs, and Jaden Bloemendaal, of Edgerton, Minn., were each named this year’s Beanie Queen and King for Blue & White Days.
Pengra is an athletic training major and a member of DWU Cheer Team. She is the daughter of Tina Pengra, Hot Springs, and Drew Pengra, Muskogee, Okla.
Bloemendaal is majoring in sports broadcasting at DWU and is a member of the DWU football team. He is the son of Jon and Kristen Bloemendaal.
Traditionally the beanie king and queen wear their beanies to all homecoming events.
Other candidates included:
Chris Zanotto, of Blair, Neb., is a freshman at DWU and a member of the track and field team. He is the son of Mark and Robin Zanotto.
Mitchell Messersmith, of Parker, is a criminal justice major and a member of the DWU wrestling team and the McGovern Engagement Group. He is a graduate of Lennox High School and the son of Joann and Michael Messersmith.
Leah Rehder, of Hawarden, Iowa, is a criminal justice major and a member of DWU Cheer Team and Fusion church on campus. She is the daughter of Jeff and Kelly Rehder.
Jozy Bardsley, of Tea, is a nursing major and a member of the DWU soccer team. She is the daughter of Dee Bardsley.
Rylie Osthus, of De Smet, and Sam Naasz, of Winner, were named the DWU homecoming queen and king for 2018 Monday, as well. Blue & White Days continues this week with student and community events with “Rock ’n’ Roar” as the theme, including the Legacy Banquet on Thursday night, the dedication of the alumni center on Friday afternoon, and the pep rally and burning of the “W” Friday night following the DWU vs. College of Saint Mary volleyball game, just outside of the Christen Athletic Center. The Blue & White Days parade will be at 10 a.m. Saturday on Main Street with tailgating and the homecoming football game will follow at Joe Quintal Field. For a full list of events, click here.
