The Randall Scholarship

DWU’s Highest Academic Award

The competitive Randall Scholarship is one of Dakota Wesleyan University’s most prestigious honors. It is awarded to students who not only demonstrate academic rigor but also possess the drive to shape our campus culture. As a Randall Scholar, you are recognized as a leader amongst your peers – someone ready to see the world differently and leave a lasting legacy.

To earn the Randall Scholarship, you must participate in Dakota Wesleyan’s Fall or Spring Scholarship Days.

Selection is just the beginning.

To maintain this scholarship and maximize your DWU experience, you must commit to the following pillars of success:

  • Academic Excellence: You will need to maintain a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA, demonstrating your dedication to your intellectual growth.
  • Active Engagement: You will be a vital part of the DWU community. As a Randall Scholar, you will be involved on campus, whether through student leadership, clubs, campus ministry, performing arts or athletics.
  • Professional Networking: You will participate in the annual Legacy Banquet. This exclusive event connects you with alumni and university friends, helping you build the professional network that will support your career after graduation.
  • Reflective Growth: You will complete an exit interview with the dean of students upon the conclusion of your time at DWU, ensuring your voice helps shape the future of the university.

Ronald F. and Charlys F. Randall HD’23

Known best as the former owners of Randall Stores Inc., a chain of 29 grocery stores headquartered in Mitchell, the Randalls are noted for their philanthropy and support of several organizations.

In 1983, the Randalls created an endowment in honor of Ron’s father, F. Dwain “Doc” Randall, establishing the Randall Scholarship. The Randalls are the sole benefactors of the prestigious Randall Scholarship, which is the highest academic award available to DWU students. The scholarship is awarded on a competitive basis to incoming freshmen who exhibit outstanding academic achievement and leadership qualities. Over its more than 40-year span, there have been 225 Randall Scholars who have made their marks on the world, going on to prominent careers in the fields of medicine, law, education, ministry, and other distinguished professions.
