Approved Online Transfer Courses
DWU students can now access the Acadeum catalog of online courses already approved for transfer credit.
Dakota Wesleyan University is a member in the Acadeum College Consortium, a group of accredited private colleges and universities that share select online courses to support students in their educational goals.
The primary uses of the consortium are to provide students with greater access to courses when they need:
- To repeat a course.
- To increase their grade point average to remain enrolled.
- To increase their grade point average to maintain athletic eligibility.
- A prerequisite for an upcoming course.
- A course that is not offered during the semester.
Courses taken through the consortium are transcribed on the student’s DWU transcript, allowing for the following:
- DWU to apply financial aid to the courses.
- Students can improve their GPA by substituting a course grade earned through the consortium for the course previously taken at DWU (if eligible for repeat).
- Students can count the consortium course(s) towards part- or full-time status and residency requirements.
How does Acadeum Course Share work?
Acadeum Course ShareTM transfer courses have been approved by DWU to match our courses. Students must sign up for an account using their DWU student email, verify their email, and register for the approved courses.
Many courses will transfer a letter-grade back to Dakota Wesleyan instead of just the credits, and the courses will count in determining semester financial aid. Transferring a grade back is important if you are trying to improve a GPA, and having the course count in determining financial aid may increase your eligibility for aid.
The Registrar, the Associate Provost of Teaching and Learning, and Department Chairs review and select courses from the consortium to make available to students. When reviewing courses, they review course syllabi, faculty credentials, and additional assessment of learning outcomes data.
Students will collaborate with their Academic Advisor and the Registrar to access the Acadeum Platform to search for available courses.
Once the student has selected potential courses, the student can request the course through the Acadeum Platform and provide the rationale for needing the course.
Student Request Approval
The Registrar will review the student’s course request through the Acadeum platform. The Registrar will consider the student’s eligibility, the student’s business office standing, financial aid eligibility, and whether any prerequisites are needed.
Once the Registrar conducts the review, the course request will be approved or denied. The Registrar may also request more information from the student.
Once approved for a course, students will receive assistance from the teaching institution and the Acadeum support team regarding log in and password, access to the learning management system, and beginning the course.
Course Billing and Student Payment
The student will pay the applicable DWU term tuition rate for the Acadeum course. Billing will follow all Dakota Wesleyan University pricing, billing, procedures, and deadlines for the period in which the Acadeum course takes place. All costs and billing will be directly from DWU, not the teaching institution. Any questions regarding costs, rates, or billing can be directed to Accounts Receivable in the Business Office at DWU, NOT the teaching institution.
Students are responsible for all learning material costs, including textbooks, as determined by the teaching institution.
Add & Drop Dates
The add and drop dates are set by the teaching institution. Students should review the syllabus closely for the assigned dates and any required course fees.
**Though all courses are approved, please note that all registrations are still dependent on DWU approval on a student-by-student basis.
