Health and Safety Precautions


  • Temperature of 100.4 or higher
  • Repeated shaking or chills
  • Cough (new or different than normal)
  • Shortness of breath (not associated with preexisting conditions such as asthma)
  • New loss or smell and/or taste
  • Loose stools/upset stomach (for longer than 12 hours)
  • Muscle pain (not associated with new activity)
  • Sore throat
  • Headache
  • Congestion

If you experience any COVID-19 symptoms:

  • STAY HOME or in your dorm room
  • Contact the DWU Response Team
  • Contact professors, coach or your work supervisor 
  • If symptoms persist, a free PCR saliva test can be scheduled with campus health. Call (605) 995-2957 or email the DWU Response Team.

If you test positive for COVID-19:

  • Remain at home, dorm room or off-campus housing
  • Immediately notify the DWU Response Team, professors, coach and/or your work supervisor
  • On-campus students will be moved to quarantine housing provided by DWU.
  • Complete 10 day isolation period, may return on day 11 at 6 a.m. if fever and symptom-free for 24 hours
  • Practice vigilant hygiene
  • The DWU Response Team will check in with you daily
  • Report body temperature and symptoms update by email to the DWU Response Team and daily guidance will be given.

If you are in close contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19:

  • STAY HOME or in your dorm room
  • Contact the DWU Response Team. You will be given direction about when you should be tested. 
  • Contact professors, coach or your work supervisor. 
  • Vaccinated students will be given guidance from campus health.
  • Unvaccinated students must remain in quarantine for 7 days; test for COVID on day 5 of quarantine with more guidance given based on test results.
  • Failure to comply with DWU quarantine and COVID testing protocols will result in a 14-day quarantine per CDC guidelines.
