About DWU

This documentary on public art in South Dakota was inspired by "Power of Possibility," the sculpture installed on the DWU campus in 2022. The film features comments by the sculpture’s creator, artist Joan Benefiel, and South Dakota Artist Laureate Dale Lamphere, about how art projects are initiated and completed. The film includes interviews and a tour of public art in towns throughout the state to explore the impact and importance of public art in their communities. 

The film was produced by Anna Marie Thatcher '70 and the office of Institutional Advancement at Dakota Wesleyan University. It was made possible by grants from the South Dakota Humanities Council, an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities; the South Dakota Community Foundation; with support from Dr. Lesta V. HD’21 and Mike Turchen.
