The Winter Concert is set for next week at Dakota Wesleyan University.

The Ron and Sheilah Gates Department of Music at DWU will present its Winter Concert with the Wesleyan Band and LyricWood Orchestra at 4 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 19, in the DWU Sherman Center. This concert is free and open to all.

The Wesleyan Band will perform pieces such as Vittorio Monti’s “Czardas,” featuring DWU junior Mellissa Spitzer, Mitchell, on flute, and a Dixieland-style Canadian brass piece, “The Saint’s Hallelujah,” that combines “When the Saints Go Marching In” with “Hallelujah Chorus.”

LyricWood will perform “Concerto in E Flat,” by Alexander Glazunov, with DWU sophomore Bryce Blank, Rapid City, with an alto saxophone solo. The orchestra will also perform “Serenade for Strings,” by Antonin Dvorak.

Also, DWU will introduce two new instrumental ensembles during the Winter Concert – the Wesleyan Saxophone Quartet with both DWU and Mitchell Technical Institute students, and the LyricWood Cadets, which is comprised of youth string musicians.
