MITCHELL – The Ron and Sheilah Gates Department of Music at Dakota Wesleyan University will once again present an eight-week run of Summer Dinner Theatre.
“Love, Sex and the IRS,” a rollicking comedy by William Van Zandt and Jane Milmore, will be presented Fridays and Saturdays June 5-July 25 and Sunday afternoons July 5-26. Evening performances will serve dinner at 6:30 p.m. with the show starting at 7:30. (There will be no show on Saturday, July 4.) July Sunday matinees will offer lunch at 1 p.m. with the show opening at 2 p.m. The dinner and performances are held in the Black Box Theatre inside the Dakota Discovery Museum on the DWU campus.
“Love, Sex and the I.R.S.” is a two-act farce set in a New York City apartment in the 1970s. The plot centers on Jon Trachtman and Leslie Arthur, two struggling, out-of-work musicians who share an apartment. To save money Jon has been taking advantage of Leslie's sexually ambiguous name and filing tax returns as a married couple. The deception works until they receive notice from the Internal Revenue Service that they are going to be investigated. To fool the investigator, Jon convinces a reluctant Leslie to dress in drag and masquerade as Jon's wife. Complications rapidly multiply with a series of surprise events.
Tickets are $40 per person and include a four-course dinner: soup, salad, entrée and dessert. Tickets may be purchased online at https://store.dwu.edu/theatre.
