DWU's Desmonds to Perform Recital

DWU’s Dr. Clinton Desmond, tenor, and chair of the Ron and Sheilah Gates Department of Music, and Erin Desmond, assistant professor of music, on piano and melodian, will perform a recital on Friday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. at the Downtown Mitchell First United Methodist Church.

MITCHELL – DWU’s Dr. Clinton Desmond, tenor, and chair of the Ron and Sheilah Gates Department of Music, and Erin Desmond, assistant professor of music, on piano and melodian, will perform a recital on Friday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. at the Downtown Mitchell First United Methodist Church.

The evening’s concert, entitled “From Rags to Riches,” will feature a variety of popular showtunes and ragtime by composers ranging from Scott Joplin to George Gershwin to Lin-Manuel Miranda, and many more.

The recital is free and open to the public.

Several music events upcoming this semester include the DWU Midwinter Concert on Feb. 25; the LyricWood Orchestra Spring Concert on March 17; the DWU Spring Concert on April 21; and a faculty recital by instructor of instrumental music Jason Laczkoski on April 28.

The Ron and Sheilah Gates Department of Theatre will present the musical “Head over Heels” March 15-17 and 22-24. The show is based on “The Arcadia” by Sir Philip Sydney and features the music of the popular 1980s group The Go-Go’s.
