DWU announces winners from Spring Scholarship Day

Dakota Wesleyan University recently announced spring scholarship winners for the class of 2020.

32 high school seniors competed last month during DWU’s Spring Scholarship Day on Feb. 14 for the university’s most prestigious scholarships. Students with outstanding academic status, leadership potential and commitment to serving others were invited to campus to meet with faculty, staff and students, all while exploring opportunities at DWU.

 

The following is a list of Presidential Leadership and Randall Scholarship winners – DWU’s most competitive scholarships:

 

 

Presidential Leadership Scholarship winners:

To qualify for a Presidential Leadership Scholarship, students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and a 21/980 ACT/SAT score and must meet certain leadership/service qualifications. The scholarship is $68,000 over four years.

 

Jack Brinkman, Jackson, Minn., Jackson County Central High School, is the son of Mike and Mary Brinkman

Brooke Bullington, Brookings, Brookings High School, is the daughter of Mark and Tammy Bullington

Taylor Hoffmeyer, Sioux Falls, Roosevelt High School, is the son of Karen Hoffmeyer

Aspen Taylor, Tea, Tea Area High School, is the daughter of Chad and Jody Taylor, Holly Mushitz

Hilaray Wade, Menno, Menno Public School, is the daughter of Mike Wade and Heidi Walter.

 

 

Randall Scholarship winners:

To qualify for a Randall Scholarship, students must have at least a 3.5 GPA and a 24/1090 ACT/SAT score and must meet certain leadership/service qualifications. The scholarship is $84,000 over four years.

 

Monique Gomez, Santa Maria, Calif., Pioneer Valley High School, is the daughter of Jesús and Veronica Gomez

Morgan Oedekoven, Pierre, T.F. Riggs High School, is the daughter of Dusty and Jennifer Oedekoven – Randall/athletic scholarship

Julia Sanderson, Sioux Falls, Sioux Falls Christian High School, is the daughter of Joel and Nicole Sanderson – Randall/athletic scholarship

Gavin Spurrell, Irene, Irene-Wakonda High School, is the son of Brian and Nicole Spurrell.

 

 

 

DWU also awarded John Wesley, Presidential and Trustee Scholarships to deserving students.

The following is a list of John Wesley, Presidential and Trustee Scholarship winners:

 

John Wesley Scholarship winners:

To qualify for a John Wesley Scholarship, students must have at least a 3.7 GPA and a 27/1210 ACT/SAT score. The award is for $13,000 to $14,750 and is renewable for up to 10 semesters if the student remains in good standing.

 

Lavin Bendt, Kadoka, Kadoka Area High School, is the daughter of Rich and Shawna Bendt – John Wesley/athletic scholarship

Cobey Carr, Pierre, T.F. Riggs High School, is the son of Corey and Tiffany Carr – John Wesley/athletic scholarship

Avery Nordbye, Baltic, Baltic High School, is the son of Jeremy and Sonja Nordbye - John Wesley/athletic scholarship

Riley Pursell, White Lake, White Lake High School, is the son of Dave and Kris Pursell

Calvin Webb, Laramie, Wyo., Laramie High School, is the son of Brooks and Daniele Webb – John Wesley/athletic scholarship.

To qualify for a Presidential Scholarship, students must have at least a 3.0 GPA and an 18/860 ACT/SAT score. The award is for $8,750 to $13,000 and is renewable for up to 10 semesters if the student remains in good standing.

 

Joshua Arlt, Lennox, Lennox High School, is the son of Ryan and Angela Arlt – Presidential/athletic scholarship

Emily Bies, Salem, McCook Central High School, is the daughter of Kurt and Tami Bies – Presidential/athletic scholarship

Hailey Bleeker, Chester, Chester Area High School, is the daughter of Mathew and Jaimie Bleeker – Presidential/athletic scholarship

Katlyn Briggs, Plankinton, Plankinton High School, is the daughter of Jeff and Natalie Briggs – Presidential/athletic scholarship

Tommy Determan, Gregory, Gregory High School, is the son of Jeff and Amanda Determan - Presidential/athletic scholarship

Alexis Evans Bair, Martin, Bennett County High School – Presidential/athletic scholarship

Danae Hunt, Platte, Platte-Geddes High School, is the daughter of Dean and Darla Hunt

Lily Kempf, Elk Point, Elk Point-Jefferson High School, is the daughter of Chad and Lisa Kempf – Presidential/athletic scholarship

Nora Nelson, Rapid City, Rapid City Central High School, is the daughter of John and Tricia Nelson – Presidential/athletic scholarship

Macy Sternhagen, Tyndall, Avon High School, is the daughter of Jon and Kelli Sternhagen

Connor Tapia, Tea, Tea Area High School, is the son of Eddie and Leah Tapia – Presidential/athletic scholarship

Camille Vestal, Madera, Calif., Liberty High School, is the daughter of Brett and Krista Vestal – Presidential/athletic scholarship

Jade Wesley, Sioux Falls, Roosevelt High School, is the daughter of Terrell and Jen Wesley – Presidential/athletic scholarship.

 

 

Trustee Scholarship winners:

To qualify for a Trustee Scholarship, students must have at least a 3.5 GPA and a 24/1090 ACT/SAT score. The award is for $12,000 to $13,750 and is renewable for up to 10 semesters if the student remains in good standing.

 

Stone Burke, Willow Lake, Willow Lake High School, is the son of JJ and Kelly Burke – Trustee/athletic scholarship

Jayden Clark, Garretson, Garretson High School, is the daughter of Doug and Tana Clark

Salvatore O’Neill, Cooperstown, N.D., Griggs County Central High School, is the son of Salvatore and Shannon O’Neill

Tya Weideman, Mellette, Northwestern High School, is the daughter of Jesse and Christi Weideman – Trustee/athletic scholarship.

 

 

One Student was also awarded a Tiger Award Scholarship:

 

Tiger Award Scholarship winner:

To qualify for a Tiger Award Scholarship, students must have a GPA between 2.5 - 2.99 and a 18/860 ACT/SAT score. The award is for $3,500 to $10,000 and is renewable for up to 10 semesters if the student remains in good standing.

 

Carly Holland, Garvin, Minn., Tracy Area High School, is the daughter of Mike and Sheila Holland.
