Jason Christensen and Mary Stahl were each presented the Presidential Award for Outstanding Service Thursday at Dakota Wesleyan University.

Christensen, women’s head basketball coach, and Stahl, enrollment services assistant, were awarded the designation during the end-of-year employee breakfast at the university. The awards are based on nominations by students, staff and faculty and then chosen by the university president.

Christensen began at DWU in 2010 and most recently led his team to an NAIA DII Women’s Basketball National Championship.

“Students described (Christensen) as the person that ‘some days I loved to hate and other days I just loved.’ This individual ‘set expectations that exceeded anything I ever thought I could do,’ ” President Amy Novak said as she presented the award.

In addition to coaching, Christensen also manages the scheduling for the DWU/Avera Sports Wellness Complex and GreatLife partnership, as well as the room scheduling for the Christen Athletic Center.

Stahl began at DWU is 2002 and was described as “the core” of the enrollment process at DWU. Stahl processes applications and transcripts and assists with campus visits. During her time at DWU, it is estimated she has entered more than 8,000 applications and more than 48,000 inquiries into the system.

“While Mary is rarely front and center in the admissions office, her work is pivotal to the success of Dakota Wesleyan University,” Novak said. “She is deeply committed to efficiency, accuracy and professionalism and delivers quality outcomes for the admissions office and has been instrumental to the enrollment growth of DWU.”
