In an effort to keep the Christmas at Dakota Wesleyan tradition alive, all while keeping the DWU and Mitchell communities safe, the Ron and Sheilah Gates Department of Music at Dakota Wesleyan University will be delivering their annual Christmas concert a little differently this year.
Due to the ongoing pandemic, this year’s Christmas concert will be prerecorded, allowing community members to stream and enjoy the concert from the comfort and safety of their own homes. The video link to the prerecorded concert will be released to the public on Thursday, Dec. 17., via DWU’s social media channels – Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. Airtime for the Christmas concert will be around forty-five minutes.
“We are pleased to offer the traditional Christmas at Dakota Wesleyan performance in a non-traditional format. It is our hope that this performance will bring Christmas joy to a wider audience and the performers will have the unique opportunity to experience the concert with their families,” said Dr. Clinton Desmond, director of choral activities at DWU.
The concert will include multiple Christmas-themed selections with performances by the Dakota Wesleyan Choir, Wesleyan Band, Highlanders, Wesleyan Bells and LyricWood Orchestra.
The DWU Choir and Highlanders are directed by Dr. Clinton Desmond, with Erin Desmond as the accompanist. The Wesleyan Band is directed by Dr. Bethany Amundson. The Wesleyan Bells are directed by Erin Desmond. The LyricWood Orchestra is directed by Elizabeth Soloday with Dr. Bethany Amundson as the conductor.
